The Hawaii Electronic Device Recycling and Recovery Law requires manufacturers of electronic devices to operate recycling programs. Electronic devices (EDs) include computers, computer printers, computer monitors, facsimile machines, videocassette recorders, portable digital music players that has memory capability and is battery powered, digital video disc players, digital video disc recorders, routers designed for household use, modems designed for household use, portable computers with a screen size greater than four inches measured diagonally, televisions with a viewable screen of nine inches or larger, and electronic device peripherals. (note: The items included in the expanded definition of EDs, identified by italicized letters, are covered effective July 1, 2025.)
Electronic device peripherals include a keyboard, mouse, or other device sold exclusively for external use with an electronic device as a wireless or corded device that provides input into, or output from, an electronic device; cords used with an electronic device or other electronic device peripheral; power supplies and adapters designed to support an electronic device; speakers used with a computer or television and television sound bars; and video game consoles.
